ABOUT OUR CENTER DIRECTOR

Jaci Thomson, founder of Thomson Family Music, has a degree in Music from the University of Iowa. She also studied at the University of the Pacific, in Stockton, CA, and pursued graduate studies in music therapy at Colorado State University. Jaci has formally studied dance, voice, and a variety of instruments, including saxophone, bassoon, and piano. She has performed in a variety of arenas including appearances with the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, University of Iowa Opera Workshop, and many local, regional and university theater productions and instrumental groups. Jaci has been a private music teacher for many years and has taught students at all levels, abilities, and ages. Jaci is also a Registered Music Together teacher. Jaci currently teaches all of the classes at our Center. Most of Jaci’s time is spent parenting her two small children. When she has extra time, Jaci can be found volunteering at her son’s preschool, reading, and making music with her family.

CENTER POLICIES

Make-Ups
We generally offer demonstration classes between sessions and families who miss classes during the regular session will also be invited to do makeups at that time, provided space is available.

Illness Policy
So that all children may remain as healthy as possible, please keep your child home if he or she has experienced any of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours or if your child is visibly sick: vomiting, diarrhea, fever, contagious rashes, or contagious eye infections. We do understand that some symptoms such as residual coughs, runny noses, non-contagious rashes and eye mucous are a regular part of life with children. Please use your best judgment. If your child is visibly ill, chances are he or she is not feeling well enough to participate in a highly stimulating activity such as music.

Coming Late
If you are running late, please don’t worry! We’ve all been there! Whether you make it in time for the “Hello Song” or just in time for “Goodbye”, we would love to see you. Do keep in mind that, for some children, the “Hello Song” is an important ritual and missing it can be upsetting. If you think you might miss it, you may consider singing it in the car!

Cameras and Video
Our classes are very fun and exciting and an experience we hope you will cherish for a lifetime. You are welcome to capture this experience on film PROVIDED that your child is not left unattended during class, and you are not disrupting the class. In addition, please be very careful to refrain from publicly posting (including social media sites) any photos of children that are not your own unless you receive written consent from their parent in advance. Finally, just a reminder that our classes are designed to be held in a non-performance environment, we don’t want others to feel self-conscious about their own musical ability. It would be inappropriate to place a video of class (whether or not you feel the coverage is limited to your child) on a publicly available website (including social media sites that may limit access to “Friends” or other selected individuals).

Food and Drink
Food and drinks are not allowed into the studio at any time. We lease our space and a condition of that agreement is that food and drink remain outside. If you are breast or bottle-feeding a newborn, please take extra care to ensure that fluids do not spill.

Visitors
Please bring them! We are a family-oriented program and would love for as many family members as possible to participate. Please note that our site does not have chairs or an observation area. If you plan to bring an extra child with you to class, please check with your teacher first.

Safety
We try to make our space as child-friendly as possible however, since we lease our space, we cannot make it “childproof”. That’s where you come in! Teachers are very busy teaching during class and therefore, we depend on each child’s adult caregiver to supervise them so that classes stay safe and accidents are minimized. We ask that children use “walking feet” during class and that they refrain from hanging on the ballet barres. In addition, please note that the doors are unlocked during class and we don’t want any children to escape!

Class Reservations and Payments
Your spot(s) in class is held as soon as payment is confirmed. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Generally, there is a pre-registration period for currently enrolled families. We currently accept payment only by check or through PayPal. You can use PayPal to pay with a credit card whether or not you have an account or, of course, if you have an account with PayPal, you can link it to any form of payment you choose (such as a personal bank account).

Cancellations
Refunds are not given after the first week of class. If you need to cancel your registration after the first week of class, you may request a credit toward a future session, which will be granted at the discretion of the Center Director.
